Round 3 of the sprints scheduled for 16th October and I will also have round 4 in November but the date is TBA. We will have a meeting on 23rd August with a CAMS official to discuss the future of the sprints.
The training day that was scheduled for the 12th August was cancelled due to lack of participants.
News 19.7.11
As I was unable to lock in a date for the August race until recently the only date available is the 14th August. Unfortunately the club has a dirt event on the same weekend so I don't have the support I would normally have. But what I can do is plan a training day similar to the one we had in February for the 14th August if enough people want it. We can do similar driving activities as the February event, cost will be $100 including lunch.
I can also supply a free sausage sizzle for drivers but as the club will have the BBQ I will need someone to bring a barbie.
Please get back to me this week if you will come so I can get it organised otherwise we will have to wait for the next race to get back to the track.

April 3rd - Round 1
- entry form here
- code of conduct here
- AASA NCR here
This year I have reduced the entry fee from $150 to $130 - fingers crossed we can see a good amount of entries to keep it going down and not up. So it is up to you guys to support this event. Payments to be made by Thursday 31st.
Classes have changed a little; we only have 3 classes now A under 1600cc, B over 1601cc and C AWD/4WD.
I hope we will get a delivery of hay bales next week to the track to put in turn 1, this will allow us to run the track without the chicane on the straight.
Please read the entry form requirements as it explains all you need to know for the race day. I have also attached the AASA code of conduct and AASA NCR's, please read these so you understand the basics of attending a race day that is run under the proper regulations and fully insured, and what is required of you.
I'm happy to announce that Shannons have come on board as a sponsor for this year, it's great to see that Shannons is supporting us and the future of motorsport in Cairns and the far north.

Thanks for everyone who has mailed me for their interest in the sprints this year. Sorry it has taken a while to get the dates out to you. Trying to fit in with the club events and the other Makotrac events proved a little time consuming.
I will try and get the web site updated asap as well as there is a slight change with the classes. I need to talk to a few people before I can confirm these though. At the moment we have 1 come and try day, driver training and motorkhana and 4 race days. The club and I are working on one more race day, either a tarmac rally day or a street sprint in Cairns later in the year.
Dates as follows
Feb 27th - Come try fun day - driver training and motorkhana, special price $100 per person.
April 3rd - Round 1
June 19th - Round 2
Aug 7th - Round 3
Oct 16th - Round 4
See you all again soon for a new year of racing.

Well its the end of the season. This year has gone so quickly and I can't believe we have already had 4 races. The season has been a promising one. Rounds 2 and 3 were short of expected numbers but round 1 and 4 and hopefully this last round we can see everyone for a great final day of racing. Either way, as Clerk of the Course and all the other club members who have helped with marshalling and timekeeping etc, we have all learnt heaps and I am proud of the work we have all done.
Don't forget the end of year dinner is on Dec 4th, this includes end of year trophy presentations. Finally just to let you all know, AASA has increased their insurance fees to cover sprint events from November 2010 yet another small problem. At the moment if we can still keep getting at least 13-14 people to the races' we'll be OK. Of course if we can continuously get over 20 people attending races I will be able to reduce the entry fees.
Please no late payments, I have been lenient over the last few races but it has to stop. If you want to race please make payment before Thursday the 25th.

AASA has approved the removal of the pylons on the front straight if we have hard barriers installed at turn 1. If anyone has any ideas or is able to help out in any way please let me know, otherwise we will still run the with the old layout.

This event is now insured under AASA (Australian Autosport Alliance) guidelines in replacement of CAMS. You can read more about AASA by visiting their web site at www.australianautosportallaince.com. If you are already CAMS licensed the good news is that you don't have to hold a current AASA license to race at Makotrac because AASA recognise CAMS licenses.
Entry forms for the June 13th race are now available for download from the Rules & Entry Details page.

A training day will be held on Sunday the 4th of April, this is confirmed. It is limited to 15 cars/drivers only. It will start at 9:30am and go until 1:30pm. The aim of this training day is to help new drivers to this track and/or drivers wanting to familiarise themselves with braking areas, proper race lines and car control. The day will also be used as a CAMS driver observation day for us as officials to clear you to race in the series. Cost is $100.00 each person. Please make payment by March 31st. First in first served. Also there is an amendment to the calender, the Nov 14th day will change to Oct 17th and possibily another race on Nov 21st or 28th TBA.
CAMS supplimentary regulations for the April 18th race will be released shortly, once these regulations are released we will start accepting entry fees and forms so stay tuned.
Only 4 weeks until the first race day.

Driver Training Day
A driver training day is scheduled for the end of March in order to help new drivers and experienced drivers hone their driving skills. The cost for the day will be $100.00 per entrant and the organisers aim to help drivers with their braking, acceleration, throttle control and driving lines. The event will be held at the Mako Trac and all interested parties should contact Stuart on 0416 482 216.

a test and tune day will go ahead on the 20th of this month. Start at 8:00am till about 4:00pm. We will run under the series regulations so you will need to have your CTP extensions, cams licenses, helmet, fire extinguisher etc. Check the homepage for details. Drinks and snack only will be available at the go-cart club house.
Cost will be $150.00, this will have to be paid by the 17th of Dec. There are no entry forms but you will have to sign indemnity forms on the day.

We are in the final stages of having the track approved and the sprints becoming a CAMS registered event. We are now looking for people to help out on the race days for flag marshalling. We need at least 4 people to help as spotters out on the track. Any driver who is willing to help out will receive a race T-shirt and $20.00 of their entry fee. Any family or friend who wants to help out will receive a race T-shirt and free lunch. Anyone interested in helping must also attend re-race meetings and a couple hours at the track for a briefing a week or two before the race day.
I hope we can all contribute to the running of the sprints and help out the other members of the FNQMC.

Warren, the CAMS official came up and inspected the track yesterday and all went well. He was very impressed with the facilities.
Andrew (FNQMSC) and I now have to put together our submission to CAMS along with his report and picks. He said it usually takes 2-3 weeks for CAMS to clear the event.
I ran the EVO around the track to see what we have to work with. Good speed bits with some tight hairpins. Handling will be the key, even for us EVO drivers.
I did a 1m14sec lap. So we will be running 4 laps, and probably 4-5 runs with a shoot out at the end. We are allowed to run 2 cars on the track so we may be able to allow up to 40 entries.
17.09.09
Last night we held the FNQMSC monthly meeting.
The President of FNQMSC has been in contact with CAMS on numerous occasions over the past 2 weeks to get someone up here to inspect the track. So far, we have been approved to race but just need to wait for the inspection. Frustrating, but we just have to be patient.
CAMS has also stated that we need to have an ambulance and paramedic on site for the day in case of an accident, and spectator safety. So I'm organising this as well.
The 1st race is still expected to be in November. Stay tuned.
21.08.09
A MAKOTRAC Sprint series has been approved to run to CAMS regulations. We will be trying to fit in 1 or 2 events this year, then a 5-6 race series next year starting in February.
Basic info is available on the attached flyer. We cannot place dates until the track is approved by a CAMS official, hopefully this will happen in the next few weeks.
We are now accepting exp ressions of interest for those of you who are interested in racing. We've done this early as you will see that there are CAMS regulations that have to be followed in regards to the driver and the car. Hopefully this will give you time to prepare for it.
There are no CAMS or application forms to fill out at the moment, they will available on our web site soon. At the moment if you want to race simply send me an email with your name, contact and car details and you will be added to the list.
08.09.09
Paperwork has been lodged with CAMS for approval and we are awaiting a reply. Hopefully we will hear something this week.
We have had a lot of good interest from racers with a good variety of cars. EVO's, Skyline GTR's, Skylines, Silvias, AE86's, Carolla's, 1600 Datto, 1973 Porsche 914/6 GT and a couple of other Porsches, a 348 Ferrari could be coming as well.
